Fast to gain health

Our daily habits can greatly influence how well our body’s homeostatic mechanism works. Aside from using mind power to increase your immune system, our dietary habits affect the strength of our system too.

Dr Jason Fung in his book The Diabetes Code Prevent and Reverse Type 2 Diabetes Naturally talks about how frequent eating can make people very prone to develop Type 2 diabetes and other chronic illnesses.  Our bodies are made to clean themselves out of toxins, viruses, bacteria and uncontrolled cells (cancer cells) as long as no sugar is provided to the system.  Dr Y. Ohsumi won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2016 for his research on how cells recycle and renew their content, a process known as autophagy.  Fasting activates autophagy, which helps slow down the aging process and has positive impact on cell renewal.  Fasting for 12 to 24 hrs triggers physiological functions such as inhibiting cancer cells and aging, eliminating pathogens and cleaning the inside of our cells.

Fasting when done properly can significantly improve your immune system and overall health.  It can be challenging to go without food. Drinking water with pinch of salt can help with that.  The best way to start is to aim at having 12 and more hours without food from the time of your last dinner to breakfast.   If you are used to snacking a lot, try to decrease the time between snacks gradually so that your system adapts.  Remember, fasting like a daily meditation will become a habit when practiced on a regular basis.  With developing daily habits like that, you are arming your body with strong immune system so that pathogens like viruses are less likely to wreck havoc in your body.
