Sprout yourself to health

Lets learn how to create the most potent greens at a fraction of cost: sprouts. Pound for pound, sprouts are the most nutritious food there is per dollar value.

Regeneration and rejuvenation of our bodies is possible with robust immune system, nervous system free from interference, rest from our destructive habits, live food and maintaining inner sense of wellbeing.  Sprouts are live foods. When seed germinates (sprouts) incredible flow of energy is released while natural chemical changes occur with production of enzymes that convert the concentrated nutrients into those needed by the growing plant.  Sprouts are being transformed by nature into easily digested soluble compounds. Carbohydrates are transformed by the action of enzymes into simple sugars. Complex protein is converted into amino acids and fats are changed into fatty acids.  Enzymes, amino acids, vitamins especially C, minerals, trace elements and chlorophyll are all being gifted to you from each sprout.

When it comes to seeds for sprouting, quality is very important. All seeds for sprouting are regular seeds that you would plant in your garden.  When possible, try to get organically grown seeds to avoid or minimize man-made chemical fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides. As for sprouting grains, try to get unhulled grains. Here are some examples of seeds you can sprout: adzuki beans, alfalfa, almonds, cabbage, chick peas, cow peas, fenugreek, lentils, mung beans, peas, pumpkin seeds, rye, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, vegetable seeds (radish, kale, watercress, broccoli, mustard, turnips), wheat.

There are various methods of sprouting.  Jar method is the easiest and most accessible to start growing this punch of power for your body.  Wide-mouth jar, piece of cheese cloth, nylon mesh screening or any other non-toxic material that will allow air to circulate and string or rubber band to secure it are needed.

Step1. Add 2 tablespoons (small seeds) or 1 tablespoon (large seeds) at the bottom of the jar.

Step 2.  Cover the seeds with cold tap water.  Let them stand in water for 4 hrs (small seeds) or 8 hrs (large seeds)

Step 3.  Drain the water through the cheese cloth that is secured to the mouth of the jar. Shake the jar to spread the seeds on the wall of the glass and rest it on it side on a big plate.

Step 4.  Add water and rinse them twice per day; morning and before going to bed.

Step 5. Continue the process until the sprouts start to grow. Enjoy them. Broccoli, alfalfa or radish sprouts will be ready for eating in 4 to 5 days.  Refrigerate the rest.

Incorporate growing some sprouts if you have any beans or seeds available on hand. For mung beans, keep them in the dark so cover the whole jar with a kitchen tower.  Enjoy this delicious and nutritious food grown by you!
